Project: School and Library Program in Kibera
In Nairobi's Kibera – one of Africa's largest informal settlements – many children face overwhelming barriers to education, from overcrowded classrooms to a lack of safe study spaces and digital access. Care Highway International is addressing these challenges through its School and Library Program, guiding students from primary school through to college or vocational training. The initiative provides tuition support alongside a secure after-school environment equipped with tutoring, a library, computers, and Wi-Fi. Staffed by a full-time teacher, a part-time social worker, and volunteers from the University of Nairobi, the program also offers enrichment activities in art, music, literature, technology, and career development. By investing in both academic and personal growth, Care Highway International is helping Kibera's youth break the cycle of poverty and build brighter futures.

Project: Landmine detection using HeroRATs
In Cambodia, decades after conflict, landmines continue to pose a deadly threat, hindering agriculture, development, and daily life. APOPO, a Belgian nonprofit, employs a unique solution: African giant pouched rats, known as HeroRATs, trained to detect explosives with remarkable speed and accuracy. These lightweight rodents can safely traverse minefields, sniffing out TNT without triggering the devices. Since 2015, APOPO's HeroRATs have helped clear over 33 million square meters of land, locating and destroying more than 49,000 landmines and other hazardous items. Their efforts have transformed dangerous areas into safe, usable land for local communities. Notably, a HeroRAT named Ronin recently set a world record by detecting 109 landmines and 15 unexploded ordnances in Cambodia. Through this innovative approach, APOPO is not only saving lives but also restoring hope and opportunity to regions once plagued by hidden dangers. Tauck supports Apopo with a visit on The Mekong, Vietnam, Laos & Cambodia where guests learn more.

Project: Solar power installations in the Navajo Nation
In the vast, arid lands of the Navajo Nation in the southwestern United States, many households still live without access to the electrical grid—meaning no refrigeration, no running water, and no power for essential medical equipment. Through a grant provided by Tauck, C 4Ever Green will install solar power units in 40 remote homes, providing consistent, renewable energy and transforming daily life for residents—many of whom are elders. All units are installed by local members of the Navajo Tribe, supporting jobs and economic growth within the community while ensuring communication in the native language. In this sun-drenched landscape, solar power is a clean, sustainable solution that brings light, dignity, and opportunity to families who need it most.

Project: Sponsorship of Trapeang Svay Village
Cambodia's Trapeang Svay Village is geographically close to Siem Reap, the gateway to the antiquities of Angkor Wat – but it doesn't benefit from tourism dollars. The rural village is in an area with high rainfall; the water is contaminated, and it is not safe to drink. Combined with a lack of sanitation and hygiene resources – and facilities – preventable illnesses are rampant in the village. Tauck sponsorship helps to construct latrines for better sanitation and hygiene; provide Biosand filters to clean water, remove pathogens, and make it safe to drink; and conduct community WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene) trainings.

Project: Women's Water Initiative
The installation of 40 residential rainwater harvesting systems in villages with inadequate services in Tanzania is our current project with Save the Rain – and has provided more than 1,000 individuals with clean, safe water. Strategically placed systems help extended family and neighbors as well direct recipients; in East Africa, naturally occurring fluoride in groundwater can be harmfully high, with devastating effects on children's development. When a family has no water, education is not a priority; 80% of children were walking for water instead of going to school. With safe, clean rainwater at home, 95% of children have attained perfect school attendance.
Before the installation of rainwater harvesting systems, the majority of the women in these communities walked 3 to 6 hours per day for water searching for enough water to meet their family's needs. Their walk was dangerous – and so was the water, if they found any. With unclean water, illness seeps into the home; poor health erodes resources, productivity, and educational opportunities. The installation of these rainwater harvesting systems had a positive impact and made a difference.
